Marcy Open School offers a learning climate where the student is the center, emphasizing academic achievement as well as personal development that promotes lifelong learning and individual goal setting. Learning takes place in looping classrooms (except kindergarten) where many activities occur at the same time, using an integrated curriculum in which students are taught to take responsibility for themselves and their learning. Teachers function as guides and facilitators of learning. Marcy strongly promotes learning through the arts by involving students in arts activities with local artists through the Marcy Arts Partnership; and emphasizes a commitment to peace education through its membership as an International Peace Site. Options classes for fall will take place on October 30 from 9:00-11:00. We will have all sorts of interesting, challenging and fun actitivies for all of our students to participate in! We are welcoming many guest presenters from the U of M and from a variety of organizations. We always need help, because Options is a big event! Click here to see a list of supplies we need donated. It is time for the annual Marcy Food Drive, sponsored and coordinated by Student Council and Everyday Leaders! Please donate nonperishable food items that will be given to people in need. Donation barrels are located in the front lobby.
The Marcy Open School "Fall Fun Fest" is coming up on Friday, October 24th from 5-8pm. Come and enjoy the games, prizes, raffle baskets, Scholastic Book Fair, free flu shot clinic, dunk tank, crazy hair, cake walk, and food including pizza and Holy Land. Buy a Brick, Build a Labyrinth Support the Marcy Open Community and Marcy Holmes Neighborhood in transforming the unusable space next to the playground with a 30 x 30 foot labyrinth as a focal point that will be a permanent Peace destination to all with a donation brick pathway leading to the sidewalk.
