Marcy Open School offers a learning climate where the student is the center, emphasizing academic achievement as well as personal development that promotes lifelong learning and individual goal setting. Learning takes place in looping classrooms (except kindergarten) where many activities occur at the same time, using an integrated curriculum in which students are taught to take responsibility for themselves and their learning. Teachers function as guides and facilitators of learning. Marcy strongly promotes learning through the arts by involving students in arts activities with local artists through the Marcy Arts Partnership; and emphasizes a commitment to peace education through its membership as an International Peace Site. During the tour you can ask questions, meet teachers and staff, visit the library/media center, theater, gym, multipurpose room, and classrooms. Tours will resume in October. On Nov. 8, Minneapolis voters will be asked to renew the school district’s current operating referendum authorization, which expires after the 2016-17 school year. If passed, funding from the referendum would help Minneapolis Public Schools manage class sizes and provide supportive services and activities for students. This year Marcy will be among 20 MPS schools to pilot the FAST Test for all grades. This will replace the MAP test, taken by Marcy students in past years. FAST quicker and more flexible than the MAP test. To learn more about the FAST Test, click here. The dates for testing are on the scrolling calendar to the right. Look for your student's grade level.
Fall Session will begin the week of October 10, 2016. There is a wide variety of educational, enrichment, and recreational opportunities for all ages. Buy a Brick, Build a Labyrinth Support the Marcy Open Community and Marcy Holmes Neighborhood in transforming the unusable space next to the playground with a 30 x 30 foot labyrinth as a focal point that will be a permanent Peace destination to all with a donation brick pathway leading to the sidewalk.
