Marcy Open School

Marcy Open School offers a learning climate where the student is the center, emphasizing academic achievement as well as personal development that promotes lifelong learning and individual goal setting. Learning takes place in multi-grade classrooms (except kindergarten) where many activities occur at the same time, using an integrated curriculum in which students are taught to take responsibility for themselves and their learning. Teachers function as guides and facilitators of learning. Marcy strongly promotes learning through the arts by involving students in arts activities with local artists through the Marcy Arts Partnership; and emphasizes a commitment to peace education through its membership as an International Peace Site. Parents are welcome in school as observers, helpers and classroom participants. What is an Open School?

During the tour you can ask questions, meet teachers and staff, visit the library/media center, theater, gym, multipurpose room, and classrooms. Pi Day/Family Math Night with free Pizza Pi; Monday, March 15

On Monday, March 15, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM, Marcy will host its second annual Family Math Night in honor of Pi Day (3/14). The math games are appropriate for all grade levels, including parents, and free Pizza Pi will be served. Don't miss the middle school math team competing against Principal Donna Andrews and a special guest in a Math Counts Competition starting at 7:30 PM. You can halp make the Marcy Arts Partnership (MAP) Gala on Saturday April 17, 2010 a success by donating your artwork for our silent aution. The Gala is the single, most important MAP fundraiser. Valentine's Day Carnation Sale: February 3-10

Flowers will be on sale from Wednesday, February 3 through February 10. Each flower costs $1.00 and will be delivered to students at the end of the day on Friday, February 12. Carnations are red, white, or pink; sorry, no color requests will be accepted. Look for 7th and 8th grade student-sellers at the welcome desk before school and in middle-shcool homerooms daily. Parents can send in orders with their students or order with Phyllis in the main office. No orders without payment. Proceeds will help pay for a four day trip to Concordia Language Villages' French Camp. Show your love with Valentine's Carnations!

Parent/Teacher Conferences rescheduled

The parent/teacher conferences evening previously scheduled on February 4 have been changed to Thursday, February 25 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Friday, February 26 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Unfortunately, Marcy's specialists (art, music, media, and physical education), French, and English Language Learner (ELL) teachers, as well as some special education teachers, will not be available for some parts of Friday and will be attending staff development session instead. Should you want to confer with one of those teachers, be sure to attend Thursday evening's session.
