Marcy Open School offers a learning climate where the student is the center, emphasizing academic achievement as well as personal development that promotes lifelong learning and individual goal setting. Learning takes place in looping classrooms (except kindergarten) where many activities occur at the same time, using an integrated curriculum in which students are taught to take responsibility for themselves and their learning. Teachers function as guides and facilitators of learning. Marcy strongly promotes learning through the arts by involving students in arts activities with local artists through the Marcy Arts Partnership; and emphasizes a commitment to peace education through its membership as an International Peace Site. School Tours for Prospective Parents
Interested in having your child attend Marcy Open School? Why not take a tour? During the tour you can ask questions, meet teachers and staff, visit the library/media center, theater, gym, multipurpose room, and classrooms. Tours will resume in October 2014. Students in grades 4 and above may participate in Instrumental Music with Andrew. If you would like information about participating in the program, please look at Andrew's web page.
Volleyball try-outs will take place Sept. 2 and 3 from 3:!5-5:00 in the gym. Students must have their own transportation home after try-outs. Sept. 8 from 3:15-5:00 will be the first meeting of the Marcy Co-Ed Soccer Club. All students in grades 6-8 are welcome, no cuts. Students must have their own transportation home. There is an email parent newsletter especially for you! Email Eve and tell her your student's name and grade. Interested in the Parent Portal for grades 5, 6, 7 or 8? We need your email address on record for you to register. You can email Eve OR give your email address to the main office. Parents in 5, 6, 7 or 8 are also encouraged to check the Homework Calendar for your student's grades.
To speed up the process of putting students on buses for after school activities (sports, community education, ALC) there is now a pre-registration form. Even if you aren't sure, but think your student may do an after school acivity during this school year - fill out a form and return it to Marcy. Click here for a copy of the form.

Buy a Brick, Build a Labyrinth Support the Marcy Open Community and Marcy Holmes Neighborhood in transforming the unusable space next to the playground with a 30 x 30 foot labyrinth as a focal point that will be a permanent Peace destination to all with a donation brick pathway leading to the sidewalk.
