108 - Grace Wood
Visiting the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

Welcome to Room 108!

My name is Grace Wood, and I teach 1st and 2nd grades in a "looping" classroom. I am so excited for a brand new school year at Marcy Open School, and getting the opportunity to have the Room 108 1st graders back as 2nd graders for the 2017-2018 school year.

This is my 4th year teaching at Marcy. Previously, I taught 3rd grade, 2nd, grade, and 1st grade - and now I'm back to 2nd grade! I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Child Psychology. I completed my Masters of Education and dual licensure program (also through the University of Minnesota) in May 2014 with a Masters degree in Elementary Education and teaching licenses in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education.

On a more personal note, I am Minnesota born and raised, and I come from a large family (six children - two boys and four girls). I grew up in South Minneapolis, but I currently live in St. Paul close to the Mississippi River border (I get the best of both Minneapolis and St. Paul!). This summer, I biked over 350 miles when I participated in RAGBRAI (The Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa), and I also completed my second sprint triathlon. I'm looking forward to staying active this school year, cooking new meals to bring for school lunches, completing a research paper, and watching new seasons of some of my favorite fall TV shows. Yay!

In 2nd grade, I am excited to help your children be successful and optimize their academic learning experiences, while also supporting them socially and emotionally. I am looking forward to welcoming old students back and also welcoming new students into our classroom community. My Hope and Dream for this school year is to build a strong classroom community where we help each other, learn from each other, and build growth mindsets throughout the year. With a growth mindset, maybe something is challenging and we can't do it...yet. But we can work hard and try anyway so that we grow and learn from our mistakes.
