Visiting the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum

Welcome to Room 108!

My name is Grace Wood, and I am so looking forward to a brand new school year at Marcy Open School teaching 1st Grade. I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Child Psychology. I completed my Masters of Education and dual licensure program (also through the University of Minnesota!) in May 2014 with a Masters degree in Elementary Education and teaching licenses in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education.

To get a little more personal, I come from a large family (six children - two boys and four girls), and I was born and raised in Minnesota. I grew up in South Minneapolis, but I currently live in St. Paul close to the Mississippi River border (I get the best of both Minneapolis and St. Paul!). When I am not at school, I try to bike on the Parkway system by the lakes or go to a fitness class, and I love to work on sewing projects (I'm currently working on a quilt) or relax on my couch with an interesting book or a show. I also really enjoy getting a good nights' sleep! This summer, I completed a sprint triathlon with another Marcy teacher, and am excited to keep up my training for another race in the near future.

This year, I am looking forward to helping your children be successful and optimizing their academic learning experiences in 1st grade, while also supporting them socially and emotionally. I am excited to get to know these 1st graders, and build a strong classroom community where we can make mistakes and learn together in a comfortable environment. It's going to be a great year!

- Grace
