Nicole Gehler

Welcome to room 115!  I am excited to start a new year with my wonderful 1st grade students!

I began teaching at Marcy Open School in Fall 2009 right after I completed my student teaching experience at Marcy (in the very same classroom). I have a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education and Child Psychology and a Masters degree in Early Childhood Special Education, both from the University of Minnesota. I have a birth-grade 3 regular education teaching license and a birth-age 6 special education license.

I have lived in Minneapolis for 13 years, but grew up a die-hard Packer fan in Spring Green, Wisconsin. I thoroughly enjoy sitting with a good book; a favorite of mine this summer was My Sunshine Away by M.O.Walsh. When I'm not at school you will find me sweating it out at a hot yoga class (I'm currently working on new binds) or cooking a new and exciting recipe (I'm really into meal planning, clean eating, and zoodling right now).

My hope and dream is for my students to develop a growth mindset, do work they are proud of, and learn to take care of each other as a community. I truly believe the social curriculum is what creates a child's ability to succeed in an academic environment. I am passionate about teaching the whole child while getting to know your child's personal learning style. In a safe environment students are comfortable to make mistakes, gain stamina, and show effort within rigorous academics. Students in our classroom learn to cooperate, assert themselves, take responsibility, use self-control, and show empathy. We encourage kindness, tolerance, inclusion, and peace. We are going to have a great year!

I look forward to building relationships with your children to help them learn and grow this school year!

I am happy to introduce you to our year-long teacher candidate, Chloe.

Hello! My name is Chloe Imhoff and I will be student teaching in Room 115 this year! Last spring I graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education, and this year I am working towards my Masters in Early Childhood Education as well as a dual license in both Early Childhood and Elementary Education.

I grew up in a small town just outside of Madison, WI. In my free time I enjoy reading, biking, and swimming. Additionally I love to travel and I am hoping to return to Ireland this coming year!

I am excited for this upcoming school year and I am excited to learn alongside the children. I believe relationships are an extremely important aspect to learning, and I am looking forward to building deeper relationships with all of the children and families of room 115!

Please consider donating any amount of money to a great cause for our classroom! Most supplies, extra furniture, and learning enhancers in the lassroom are supplied by the classroom teacher. When there is a big project I want to take on, I often create a project with to help supply these items. This is a great foundation that helps teachers get the things they need to be the best teacher to your child. Check out my current project by clicking the link above!
