Parent Council Minutes 4/7/11
Media Center 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Board members present: Amy Orris (treasurer)
Admin/staff present: Sidney Orchard (parent liaison); Donna Andrews (principal); Carl Wilson (assistant principal)

Treasury
• Currently $82,000 in Parent Council account (mostly in reserves)
• Net income = $1,300

Leadership. Representatives provided input and expressed a variety of concerns on the following issues:

• Budgeting, prioritizing spending
• Staffing
• Instrumental music
• Other specialist offerings
• Mixed vs. single grade classes
• Revising leadership constitution (11 years old)
• Nominations for leadership representatives

Next leadership council meeting: April 11, 5-6:30

Special Requests. Parent council members approved the following special requests:

• $300 for 1/2 bus field trip to Como Park
• $150 for French Assistant Dorian’s lunch expenses
• $100 for craft supplies related to younger students Dr. Seuss night activities
• $300 for granola bars for testing (unless General Mills/others donate)

• May 6 & 7
• PDF is available on Marcy website
• New this year: online ordering
• Volunteers needed

• April 20 & 21

Principal’s Report
• Picture Day
• Lots of prepping for upcoming testing
• Overview of 3 main tests (MAP, MCA, and Fountas-Pinnell)
• MAP gala – teachers have been asked to auction something “experiential” related to a personal hobby, activity, or skill
• Staffing cuts / reductions / changes
o budget clerk (??? → 0)
o middle school guidance counselor (0.5 → 0)
o instrumental music (1.0 → 0.6)
o phy ed (1.4 → 1.0)
o media specialist (1.0) → media specialist (0.8) + tech specialist (0.2)
o science specialist (0.7 → 0.8)
o dance specialist (0 → 0.4)
o health teacher (0 → 0.4)
• Marcy will remain mixed-grade going forward
