What is GEAR UP?

 

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a seven-year federal grant through the U.S. Department of Education that will increase the number of Minneapolis Public School District student to enroll and succeed in postsecondary education. 

 

GEAR UP support will ‘move up’ with the current 8th graders through 12th grade.

 

Goals of GEAR UP

·         Increase students’ academic performance and prepare them for college.

·         Increase the number of students to graduate from high school.

·         Increase students’ and families’ knowledge of college and postsecondary options, and how to plan and pay for them.

 

Services

·         Connecting students and families to college resources

·         Provide Financial literacy workshops for students and families

·         College visits

·         After school programing – University YMCA GEAR UP Club
