Homework

1st Grade Homework Policy:

According to Responsive Classroom research there is no proven correlation between academic achievement and homework. Many children have extracurricular activities that provide rich learning experiences. We believe after long school hours, children need to explore and have time to play. The 1st grade team wishes to make homework meaningful and related to teaching content.

We will send home a weekly reading and writing log in Friday Folders each month. We hope that each student is reading or read to for 20 minutes daily and writing for 20 minutes daily. When we start a new unit in math class, we will send home a parent letter about the unit of study, as well as suggested family activities relating to the unit. Any unfinished work in Math will be sent home to be completed. Unfinished work should be completed and returned to school.

We will periodically send home family home projects for units of study we do as a team.
