Marcy Open School offers a learning climate where the student is the center, emphasizing academic achievement as well as personal development that promotes lifelong learning and individual goal setting. Learning takes place in looping classrooms (except kindergarten) where many activities occur at the same time, using an integrated curriculum in which students are taught to take responsibility for themselves and their learning. Teachers function as guides and facilitators of learning. Marcy strongly promotes learning through the arts by involving students in arts activities with local artists through the Marcy Arts Partnership; and emphasizes a commitment to peace education through its membership as an International Peace Site. School Tours for Prospective Parents
Interested in having your child attend Marcy Open School? Why not take a tour? During the tour you can ask questions, meet teachers and staff, visit the library/media center, theater, gym, multipurpose room, and classrooms. Tours will resume in October. Spring Sports Registration for students in grades 6-8 will be held at the Edison Gym Lobby on March 1st from 4:00-6:30. This includes Badminton, Baseball, Boys' Tennis, Golf, Softball and Track. Track is the only sport available to 6th graders. Coaches will be present to answer any question you may have. For more information, click here!
We will be celebrating Marcy African American Parent Involvement Day on Friday, February 24th, with an all school assembly and Mike Mello’s brass band, who will be performing for us. All parents are welcome! The National African American Parent Involvement day is scheduled for the 2nd Monday of the month in February and parents are welcome to visit on this day, as well, but our All-School assembly will occur on Friday, the 24th at 9:00am.
The Marcy Yearbook is now on sale! $15.00! Yearbooks will not be delivered to students until June, but they should be ordered now. We have a limited number of books to sell, and once they run out we cannot order more. We send out an electronic newsletter to families of students in Grades 5, 6, 7, 8. This does not replace the Parent's Press, which is an All-School Newsletter. This replaces the classroom newsletters your teachers have sent home by backpack or email in grades k-4. To recieve this newsletter by email, you must sign up for it! E-mail Eve at email@example.com. Make sure to say your student's name and grade. If your student is in 6, 7, 8 and you received the newsletter last year, you don't need to sign up again. If your email has changed, make sure to let Eve know AND the main office.If you do not want to get the newsletter by email, you can read it on the web page.
