Happy Friday!

We had a fun short week with Be Safe Bear Safety presentation and Big Buddies!

Our week at a glance:
Reading: We learned how to describe a character by studying Tacky the Penguin.  The students LOVED all the Tacky books. Some words that described him were: odd, nice, silly, helpful, clever, and funny.
Math: We were busy with math stations that involved addition.  We practice addition in games and activities, not pencil and paper….yet. However, I will say that students were starting to write equations at one of the math centers this week.
Writing: We are still writing in response to literature.  We are practicing spacing between words, starting with uppercase letters, the rest of the letters are lower case, ending with a period, using our word wall for star words and stretching all the other words out on our arm. Next week we will begin our non-fiction writing unit which will be so much fun!

*Important reminder that our field trip is Wednesday. Please make sure your child comes to school with a sack lunch and drink. School lunches had to be pre-ordered and I only had 2 students to pre-order.

Next week:
*We will learn about groundhog’s day through reading several books.
Monday: Gym, media
Tuesday: Art, celebrate Mira’s birthday
Wednesday: Field trip to Children’s theater.
Thursday: Art
Friday: Gym
Sight (star) words: six, more

Friday Folders- Included is a sorting by number of vowels activity for you to do with your child. Please use the name cards from last week’s syllable activity. Remember to keep them, you will need them for the next 2-3 weeks for following sorting activities. You will also find a 50-frame for your child to complete. Please observe your child forming numbers..they all start at the top and number 4 is the only one with ‘pick ups.’

In the Friday folder you will find a book order which is due Friday. You will find a ‘love note’ for you and your child to CUT OUT and decorate. (Please CUT out the heart prior to decorating. We will hang them on our door and won’t have enough room if they take up much more room than the actual ‘love note.’ Thanks!) I’ve also included a bookmark that is laminated in your Friday folder. It has different kinds of questions you can ask your student about fiction or non-fiction books. They are samples of the kinds of questions we ask in school and on testing. Try to only pick a couple per book so your child isn’t overwhelmed.
