Parent Council Meeting Minutes
March 4, 2010
6:30 pm Media Center

Board members present: Julia Janousek (chair and Marcy Family Network facilitator); Bettina Dehnhard (vice chair), Lisa Hondros (secretary, leadership representative); Sarah Tittle (treasurer), Sidney Orchard (parent liaison)
Admin/teachers present: Susan Dreves Libson (assistant principal)

Agenda

1. Annual Fund Letter
Spent the meeting folding, stuffing and labeling letters that will go out to all Marcy families soliciting donations to the Annual Fund. Thanks to Julia for writing the letter!

2. Principal’s Report (Susan)
Reported on how district money for open magnet will be spent, e.g. lighting for theater, new musical instruments, books at lower reading levels for middle school, lacrosse equipment.

3. Treasurer’s Report (Sarah)
Money available to allocate some for Peace Day activities.

4. Leadership Report (Lisa)

New schedule for next year will add 15 minutes to the school day. Middle school will no longer have study hall; not yet clear how pull-outs will be done for band; class periods lengthened from 42 minutes to 55 minutes; no more block scheduling for science/language arts.

Surprise district directive via email advising staff to reduce meetings to one per week. Discussion at Leadership of any committees that could be combined, perhaps rotating meeting times. Staff will be submitting ideas for meeting reductions to Donna.

Class configurations will be the same next year. CLASS program is leaving Marcy (2 classrooms). The autism program will expand to a K-8 program next year. Marcy will keep existing staff and be hiring for two new citywide autism classrooms. We are expecting 32 students (there are 16 this year). At this time we believe students in the autism program will be counted as part of class sizes (this was not the case this year).

5. Next Meeting
Accepting nominations for Board positions for next year: Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary and Leadership Officer.

Meeting adjourned at 7:45p.m.

Respectfully submitted, Lisa Hondros (serving as secretary)
