Sean Casey, Media

My name is Sean Casey, and I am the library media specialist here at Marcy Open School.

I have been a proud employee of Minneapolis Public Schools since 2011, serving as the library media specialist at Field Community School, Ramsey Middle School, and Jefferson Community School. In that time and at those schools I have had the honor of receiving Field’s Mike Andrews Award for my “positive attitude, willingness to take action, and the dedication [I] put forth in making Field and the surrounding community a better place for everyone,” of becoming a Common Sense Digital Citizenship: Certified Educator (an “official stamp of recognition” from Common Sense Media for my dedication to “teaching digital literacy and citizenship to young people”), and of being one of 105 Minneapolis Public Schools educators recognized at the Celebration of Teachers for my “impact on students and student achievement” and “continued dedication to student excellence and success in raising academic achievement in our schools.”

I now have the honor of serving as the library media specialist here at Marcy, where I use my Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art from St. Olaf College and teaching license in Visual Arts to support the mission of Marcy’s Arts Partnership (to provide arts-integrated programs and residencies for all children at Marcy Open School) and my Master of Science degree in Library and Information Science from St. Catherine University and Library Media Specialist teaching license to support the mission of Marcy’s library media program (to assist all students in becoming active and responsible locators, users, creators, and evaluators of information, media, and technology).
