Selina and I

Hello! Howdy! Bonjour! As-salamu 'alaykum! Shalom! Hola!

My name is Mike and I have the honor and privelige to teach music at Marcy Open! I will be teaching general music to all students in grades K, 2, 4 and 5 on a three day rotation. I will also be teaching some band lessons to all 4th grade band participants as well as some middle school small group lessons. Andrew and I are both thrilled about the progress the

band students have been making and their ownership over building a stron tradition of musical development at Marcy!

I grew up in the Twin Cities area and graduated from Osseo Senior High in 2004. I am a 2009 graduate of the University of Minnesota with a double major in Music Education and Tuba performance. Currently, I'm pursuing my Master's Degree from the University of St. Thomas with an emphasis in the Orff Schulwerk.

I just married my wonderful partner Selina in August 2017 and we live in New Brighton with our precious Bassett kids Gabby and Bernard.

I play tuba professionally in two different bands in the area: Jack Brass Band, and McNasty Brass Band. These bands have allowed me to travel all over and to hear and interact with a lot of awesome musicians! If you ever see me at a gig, please come up and say hello!

Our curriculum teaches music literacy while allowing the students to carve their own path in creating their music.

I am beyond excited for this school year and the many years to follow at Marcy Open!
