Music - Michael Mello
Mike Mello
Music Teacher

Hello! Howdy! Bonjour! As-salamu 'alaykum! Shalom! Hola!

My name is Mike and I have the honor and privelige to teach music at Marcy Open! I will be teaching general music to all students in grades K, 2, 4 and 5. I will also be team teaching the 6th grade music electives (band, choir, and general music) with Andrew.

I grew up in the Twin Cities area and graduated from Osseo Senior High in 2004. I am a 2009 graduate of the University of Minnesota with a double major in Music Education and Tuba performance. Currently, I'm pursuing my Master's Degree from the University of St. Thomas with an emphasis in the Orff Schulwerk. I am engaged to my wonderful fiance Selina and we live in St. Louis Park with our precious Basset/American Bulldog Gabriella.

I play tuba professionally in two different bands in the area: Jack Brass Band, and McNasty Brass Band. These bands have allowed me to travel all over and to hear and interact with a lot of awesome musicians! If you ever see me at a gig, please come up and say hello!

This year in music we will be exploring music through movement, play, singing, games, composing, and improvisation. There will be exposure to multiple cultures and time periods embedded within the repertoire. Our curriculum teaches music literacy while allowing the students to carve their own path in creating their music.

I am beyond excited for this school year and the many years to follow at Marcy Open!
