Ryan Sutherland

Hello, my name is Ryan Sutherland. I am an Autism Teacher here at Marcy Open for grades K-2. This will be my third year at Marcy. I have been teaching students with disabilities including Autism in the Minneapolis Public Schools since January 2015. I received my ABS Special Education degree through St. Cloud State in 2014. I am currently working on a Masters in Autism through Concordia University. My wife and I have loved living in Northeast Minneapolis for last

7 years. In my free time, I enjoy playing music, riding horses, camping and exploring the north shore. We also have a 2 1/2 year old who keeps us pretty busy and one more on the way this fall!

I enjoy building relationships with my students and their families and connecting their strengths and interests with what they are currently learning.  I use evidence-based strategies to teach including but not limited to graphic organizers, video modeling, visual supports/schedules,

music therapy, and social skills training. My goal is to create space for them to learn as well as a positive, creative and open environment for our students to be as independent as possible.

Let me know how I can best communicate with you regarding your student’s progress. I am flexible and available through email, phone, or in person.

See you in the fall!

Ryan Sutherland
