We had a great week. Our warm fuzzy/cold prickly project is coming home today.  Consider posting it on your fridge or a place for reference and reminder that we want to be warm fuzzies to each other.

Math-worked on sorting, classifying and matching by attributes.
Reading-Picking just right books, using pictures to help us read words, reading for fun, what we can gain from rereading books
Social studies-still working on rules unit (for school, home and community) and WHY we have rules (to be fair, to learn, to be safe...)
Writing-working on proper letter formation...one letter a day. Introduce the sound of that letter too.

Picture day is Wed. Oct 3 at 9:14am. I got an AM slot because I didn't want to chance anything after lunch and recess. I will do my best to make sure they look as beautiful as they always do. Yes, you buy the pictures before you see them but if you don't like them you can return them on picture retake day and try again. If you did not turn in your picture envelope, please do so (you will want to email me to make sure I prompt your student for it, 5-year-olds don't always remember to give me things).

We had our first class book go home today.  You get to keep it for 1 night, read it with your child and return it the next day. With 28 kids it will take about 2 months before the book makes it in and out of all your homes. We will make a new one each week to join in the circulation. Please take great care with these books. Students worked hard and are proud of their books.

No School: Wed. Oct. 17 (conferences) and Friday, Nov. 2 (Record keeping day). These are NOT noted in the school calendar so please take note so you have care for your children on these days.

I have finished assessing students reading and writing skills and on Monday we will begin our guided reading groups during Reader's workshop.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I'm going to enjoy running in this weather and looking at all the fall colors.
