Dear 110 families,

We have had a wonderful first week!  We have been learning a lot about the procedures and routines for second grade in 110 and getting to know each other because we have some new friends in our class this year. We have also been playing a lot of games and doing fun projects while learning to work together and make our room a cooperative and caring community.  Together we are going to make this a great year!

I am excited about the opportunity to continue working with you or to get to know you and your child, and I’m looking forward to a happy and productive school year.  In our second grade classroom we will strive to build a friendly and safe classroom community in order to enhance academic learning. Everyone in this classroom makes a difference and is important in creating this community.

We practice Responsive Classroom in Room 110.  We spend the first 4-6 weeks directly teaching routines and procedures and building a solid community.  The students will create a list of classroom rules that they believe will help them create a safe environment and do their best learning.

Friday Folders

Parent letters, news, and any finished work will be sent home in the Marcy Friday Folders.  Unfinished work will also be sent home with a note to be completed and returned to school. The folder will be sent home on Friday and should be returned the following week. The folder should be checked every week when it comes home.  You can also use this folder to send things back to me that are not urgent.  I will empty the folder each week before filling it again but may not get to it until Friday.

Parents Press

Parent’s Press is a weekly school-wide newsletter.  This will go home with the youngest sibling at Marcy in the Friday folder.

Alex

Alex is joining our classroom this year and is a co-teacher.  He is currently working on his Master’s in Early Childhood Education at the University of Minnesota. The kids are really enjoying him and he is going to be a great addition to our community.

Communication between home and school will play a large role in Room 110’s success.  It is important to me that families are involved and informed of classroom happenings. I will be sending out Newsletters and would like to email as many as possible. Also, if you are interested in volunteering in the classroom or would just like to visit please let me know.  I really encourage this and believe it helps build community and support of your child’s learning. A volunteer to come in and work on Friday folders is very helpful as well.

I have sent this letter to you by email as well.  If you did not receive it, please email me with your email address so I can add you to our classroom email list.

Thank you for putting your child’s emotional and educational needs in my hands. I look forward to meeting all of the new families and reconnecting with all the returning families. I’m looking forward to a great year!
