Hello Wonderful Room 101 families,

Today we had big buddies and we made home (Shelter is a need we all have) and wrote about our home with our buddy.  A couple buddies were talking about there is no such thing as Santa which was cut off as soon as an adult overheard.  Just be aware the inappropriate conversation took place in case your child comes home with questions.

Last night was literacy night and Willa was the grand prize winner of the $75 Target gift card! Congratulations Willa!

Our week at a glance:
Reading: We studied non-fiction text features.  Shared what we learned from an informational book.
Math: We are working on beginning addition (you will notice some work coming home in the Friday folder).  We worked on different ways to make sets and began language on number sentences (i.e. 2 and 3 is 5).
Writing: We have selected one of our personal narrative pieces to fix up and fancy up for our author celebration next week.
Social Studies: We are working on wants and needs unit. Students made a ‘wants’ collage and sorted pictures of needs and wants. We’ve had a lot of great conversations around this unit.

Next week:
Monday: Science, Celebrate Karen’s Birthday
Tuesday: Science
Wednesday: Science, Author’s Celebration, Inclusion Play
Thursday: Science, celebrate Isaac’s birthday, Be Safe Bear
Friday: Science, celebrate Dylan’s birthday
Sounds this week: f and l
Sight (star) words: on, in, has

Volunteers Needed: Thursday, December 20 from 1:45-2:45 for Gingerbread house making. Please let me know if you can help out.

Friday Folders- Handwriting homework for the letters f and l. I am sending home handwriting sheet for names again. Your children are forgetting to write appropriate upper and lower case letters so we’ll add a little additional practice. Make sure students are going slow and forming letters correctly. Reminder that students should do all writing in pencil only.
Math homework is filling in the missing numbers on a 20-frame (have students correct backward numbers). Also, note the questions you should ask your child at the bottom of the page.
The December Principal’s reading challenge is coming home along with a list of OPTIONAL December activities to do with your child.

Items Needed-
28 juice boxes (for author’s celebration on Wednesday)
brown lunch bags
Paper plates

Have a great weekend,
